Vape Coils 101: When and How to Change Them

Coils do not last forever, and knowing when to change them is the difference between great flavour and a harsh, burnt draw. Here is how often to swap yours, how to spot a dying coil early, and how to do the job properly.

How often should you change a coil?

As a rough guide, replace a pod coil every 1 to 2 weeks and a sub-ohm coil every 1 to 3 weeks, depending on usage. Sweet e-liquids gunk coils faster, while lighter use extends their life.

Signs a coil is finished

Watch for a burnt or off taste, weak vapour, gurgling, or dark e-liquid around the coil. When flavour drops despite a full tank and fresh battery, the coil is the culprit. See our burnt coil fixes for rescues and prevention.

How to change it properly

Disassemble the tank or pod, remove the old coil, prime the new one with a few drops of e-liquid, refill and wait a few minutes before vaping. Replace pods when their coils are built in and cannot be swapped.
